SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip – Floating Handgrip for Action Cameras
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip is a floating handgrip for action cameras that makes filming in and around water safer and more comfortable. Highly buoyant material helps keep the grip and a compatible camera on the water’s surface if it slips from the user’s hand. Bright orange colouring makes the accessory highly visible in water and easier to retrieve.
The floating handgrip is suitable for swimming, snorkelling, surfing, paddleboarding, boating, water parks and other situations where an action camera is used in or near water. A soft foam handle, standard 1/4″-20 mount and included action camera adapter make it a practical accessory for users of DJI, GoPro, Insta360 and other compatible cameras.
Keeps an action camera on the water’s surface
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip is made from highly buoyant material that helps prevent a camera from sinking if the grip is accidentally dropped while filming. A camera that remains on the surface is easier to locate and retrieve than one that has sunk, providing additional security during water sports and other water-based activities.
Bright orange colouring improves visibility on the water. This is particularly useful in waves, low-light conditions or situations where the camera may drift several metres away from the user. Floating construction does not make a camera waterproof, so always ensure that the action camera or its protective housing is suitable for filming at the intended depth before use.
Soft, non-slip handle
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip features a soft EVA foam handle that provides a comfortable and secure grip, even with wet hands. Its non-slip surface makes the camera easier to control and reduces the risk of accidentally dropping it while swimming, moving around in a boat or participating in more active water sports.
The accessory also functions as a compact extension grip, allowing an action camera to be held slightly farther away from the body and used from a wider range of shooting angles. It can be used for selfies, filming close to the water’s surface, recording swimming or pointing the camera underwater without holding it directly by its housing. A longer, more stable grip also helps prevent fingers from entering the camera’s field of view.
Adjustable wrist strap for additional security
A strap hole is located at the bottom of the handle, and an adjustable wrist strap is included. The strap fits around the wrist to keep the grip connected to the user even if their hold is unexpectedly lost. Combined with floating construction, it provides two levels of protection against accidentally losing the camera.
Wrist strap should always be used when taking SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip into the water or filming from a boat, dock or another location where dropping the camera could cause it to fall into the water. Before filming, check that the strap, camera and adapter are all properly secured.
Versatile mounting for different action cameras
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip features a standard 1/4″-20 screw and comes with a three-prong action camera adapter. This mounting solution allows the grip to be used with many DJI, GoPro and Insta360 action cameras, as well as other models featuring a 1/4″-20 thread or compatible two-prong bottom mount.
When using the adapter, it attaches to the grip’s 1/4″-20 screw, while the camera connects to its three-prong mount. If a camera is not directly compatible, the original adapter supplied with the model or a separate compatible mounting adapter may be required. Check all connections before entering the water and ensure that every mounting screw is fully tightened.
A 1/4″-20 female thread at the bottom of the handle allows it to be connected to a compatible tripod, selfie stick or another accessory when required. Heavy accessories should not be attached when using the grip in water, as additional weight may reduce buoyancy and prevent the camera from remaining securely on the surface.
Lightweight and durable construction
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip weighs approximately 93.4 g and measures 182.5 × 38.5 × 38.5 mm. It is long enough to provide a comfortable grip while remaining compact and easy to carry. The accessory fits conveniently into a backpack, camera bag or set of water sports equipment without taking up much space or adding noticeable weight.
Its construction combines ABS plastic, EVA foam, stainless steel and nylon. ABS plastic provides a lightweight and durable core structure, EVA foam delivers buoyancy and a non-slip grip, stainless-steel components support reliable mounting, and nylon is used for the wrist strap. Dimensions, weight and materials are listed in the SmallRig 6152 technical specifications.
Suitable for various water activities
SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip is a practical choice for travellers, vloggers, water sports enthusiasts and content creators who want to film in water with an action camera. It can be used at the beach, in a swimming pool, on a boat, paddleboard or kayak, while surfing or when snorkelling. Its compact shape makes it easy to point the camera quickly and capture footage of the user, companions and surrounding environment.
Floating grip is not limited to underwater footage. It can also be used on dry land as a conventional extension handle when the camera needs to be held more comfortably or positioned slightly farther away. Brightly coloured design also makes the accessory easier to find among hiking gear and other equipment.
Use and maintenance
Before use, ensure that the action camera adapter is fully secured to the handle and that the camera does not move at the connection point. Wrist strap should be placed around the wrist and adjusted so that it cannot slip freely over the hand. Do not modify the grip or use it with heavy accessories that could reduce its buoyancy.
After use in seawater, a swimming pool or other contaminated water, SmallRig 6152 Floating Grip should be rinsed with clean fresh water. Allow the handle, mounting components and wrist strap to dry completely before storage. Regular rinsing helps remove salt, sand and chlorine residue while preserving the condition of materials and metal components.
