DJI Osmo 360 – DJI’s first 360-degree camera makes a strong debut

DJI has finally made its entry into the world of 360-degree cameras, and the Osmo 360 immediately shows that it’s not an experiment, but a serious competitor. The camera combines DJI’s renowned ease of use, solid hardware and competitive price, putting itself head-to-head with the market leader Insta360 X5.

The Osmo 360 design is compact, durable and practical. Its dark grey plastic body is IP68 rated, allowing it to operate at -20°C and withstand harsher conditions – although DJI does not recommend it for underwater shooting. Two 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensors and a 2.4μm pixel size theoretically promise better image quality than competitors. According to DJI, the entire sensor surface is used, which distinguishes it from other 360 cameras that don’t use part of the sensor.

Video capability:

  • 8K 50fps 360 video
  • 5K at 60fps or 4K at 120fps with a single lens
  • 10-bit colour support and D-Log M profile
  • 120MP photos

Built-in 128 GB memory, removable battery, USB-C charging and DJI magnetic quick mount ensure a smooth user experience. In addition, you can connect a DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini microphone, which allows you to record 24-bit audio, manage noise cancellation and sound levels directly from the camera – particularly useful for content creators already using DJI audio equipment.

Applications and processing:

  • DJI Mimo – an app for your smart device to control and quickly create clips (including AI-assisted editing).
  • DJI Studio – new free computer software for Mac and Windows that offers a wider range of editing, tracking, keyframing and exporting options.

Image quality:
Osmo 360 footage is contrasty and detailed – especially in daylight. Special modes such as SuperNight and Boost offer better results when shooting low light and fast action, giving the camera versatility that content creators appreciate.

Summary

The DJI Osmo 360 is a strong competitor in its class: it may not beat the Insta360 X5 in every aspect, but it offers very good value for money. It will particularly appeal to those already using the DJI ecosystem or looking for their first 360 camera without breaking the budget. While underwater filming and interchangeable lenses remain the X5’s strongest assets, the Osmo 360 can deliver outstanding results in virtually every other aspect.
