Insta360 Luna Ultra is a compact dual-lens gimbal camera that combines a 1-inch sensor, Leica Summicron main lens, dedicated telephoto camera, and three-axis mechanical stabilization. Dual-lens camera system

Insta360 Luna Ultra uses two separate camera modules, giving content creators more flexibility when capturing wide scenes, portraits, and distant details. Main camera features a large 1-inch sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens. This lens has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 20mm, while its bright F1.8 aperture helps gather more light and its minimum focusing distance is 9cm.

Second camera module features a 1/1.3-inch sensor and professional-grade telephoto lens. Its F2.0 lens has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 60mm and a minimum focusing distance of 15cm. Telephoto camera is well suited to portraits, details, and distant subjects, as its longer focal length creates a more natural perspective and helps separate the main subject from the background.

Camera system offers smooth zooming at up to 12× magnification. According to the manufacturer, up to 6× zoom, equivalent to 120mm, maintains lossless image quality when reframing, while maximum zoom reaches a 240mm-equivalent focal length. This makes it possible to move from a wide establishing shot to a much closer detail view without changing lenses.

Detailed 8K video and smooth slow-motion recording

Insta360 Luna Ultra records 8K video with a 16:9 aspect ratio at a resolution of 7680 × 4320 and up to 30 frames per second. A cinematic 2.35:1 aspect ratio is also available, providing an 8K resolution of 7680 × 3264. High resolution offers greater flexibility in post-production, allowing footage to be cropped, reframed, or used to create detailed lower-resolution extracts.

For capturing fast movement, camera supports 4K video at up to 120 frames per second. This allows sports, travel, and action footage to be transformed into smooth slow-motion video while retaining high resolution. In Full HD mode, recording is available at up to 240 frames per second for slowing down particularly fast moments even further.

Maximum video bitrate is 120Mbps, and footage is recorded using efficient H.265 encoding. Available color profiles include Standard, Dolby Vision, and professional 10-bit I-Log. I-Log helps retain more information in highlights and shadows while providing greater flexibility during color correction. Profile is compatible with ACES workflows, and Insta360 I-Log footage can also be processed in DaVinci Resolve.

PureVideo for low-light recording

Insta360 Luna Ultra uses a processing system built around three AI chips. Two dedicated imaging chips process data from the camera modules, while a 4nm AI chip supports intelligent features, focusing, and more advanced image processing.

PureVideo mode is designed for low-light recording and is available at up to 4K/60 fps. It reduces digital noise while improving brightness and detail in poorly lit environments. Large 1-inch sensor, F1.8 aperture, and AI-powered image processing make the camera suitable for recording evening city scenes, indoor events, and vlogs in low-light conditions.

According to the manufacturer, main camera offers up to 14 stops of dynamic range. This helps retain details in both bright skies and shadowed areas, reducing the risk of parts of an image becoming overexposed or excessively dark.

Three-axis mechanical stabilization

Camera’s three-axis gimbal compensates for hand movement, walking-induced shake, and small rotations to keep footage smooth while moving. Unlike stabilization that relies solely on electronic processing, mechanical system moves the entire camera module, helping retain a more natural field of view and better image quality.

Gimbal has a maximum control speed of 210 degrees per second and an angular vibration range of only ±0.005°. Wide pan and tilt ranges allow the camera to follow subjects actively and support creative shots, including automatic panoramas and the rotating Barrel Roll effect.

Deep Track 5.0 subject tracking

AI-powered Deep Track 5.0 helps keep a selected person or other subject automatically framed. Tracking can be activated using the joystick or by tapping a subject on the screen. Gimbal then rotates the camera according to the subject’s movement, making Insta360 Luna Ultra convenient for vlogs, workout videos, presentations, and scenes recorded by a solo creator.

Active Zoom Tracking combines subject tracking with automatic zooming to keep a moving subject, or one travelling away from the camera, at an appropriate size in the frame. Group Tracking is designed to follow multiple people so the entire group remains visible. Smart Framing allows users to select a person’s position on a 3 × 3 composition grid, after which the camera maintains the chosen placement throughout recording.

Detachable OLED screen and wireless recording

One of Insta360 Luna Ultra’s most distinctive features is its detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen. Display has a resolution of 318 × 564 pixels and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, helping menus and framing remain clearly visible even in bright conditions.

Once detached, screen works as a wireless monitor and remote control. HD video transmission operates at distances of up to 20 metres under suitable conditions, allowing the camera to be placed on a tripod and controlled remotely. A microphone integrated into the screen module helps record audio even when the user is positioned away from the camera. This solution is useful for solo travel vloggers, interviews, group photos, and situations where the camera needs to be placed at a distance from the person filming.

Portraits, photos, and panoramas

Insta360 Luna Ultra can record portrait videos at up to 4K/60 fps and uses face detection to produce natural skin tones and a more consistent appearance. Beauty Mode allows users to adjust skin tone and smoothing intensity to suit their preferences.

Photo mode captures UltraPhoto images at resolutions of up to 37 megapixels and supports both JPG and JPG + RAW formats. RAW files provide more flexibility for adjusting exposure, white balance, and colors during post-production. Automatic panorama mode can create landscape panoramas at up to 200 megapixels with a 2:1 aspect ratio. Camera also supports 360° panoramas, Live Frame, Timelapse, and TimeShift.

Built-in Leica color modes and filters allow photos and videos to be given a distinctive tonal character while recording. Users can save their preferred color settings as QR codes and share them with other Luna camera users.

Four-microphone audio system

Camera has four microphones in total: three in the main unit and one in the detachable touchscreen module. Pre-installed wind guard helps reduce wind noise when recording outdoors. Available audio modes include Wind Reduction, Voice Enhancement, and Original Audio, while sound is recorded in 48kHz, 32-bit AAC format.

Insta360 Luna Ultra can connect directly to Insta360 Mic Air and Insta360 Mic Pro wireless microphones. Camera supports simultaneous connection to up to two transmitters, which is useful for interviews, conversations, and other recordings featuring two speakers. Wireless microphones are not included in Standard Combo.

Built-in storage and microSD card support

Camera provides 47GB of usable internal storage, allowing recording to begin even without a memory card. For longer recording sessions, Insta360 Luna Ultra supports microSD cards with capacities of up to 2TB. For reliable 8K and high-frame-rate video recording, a microSDXC card rated at least UHS-I V30, U3, and A2 is recommended.

USB-C port supports USB 3.0 data transfer, helping large video files transfer to a computer more quickly. Built-in timecode support simplifies synchronization of footage recorded using multiple cameras and is compatible with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro workflows.

Long operating time and fast charging

Insta360 Luna Ultra main unit features an integrated 1550mAh battery, while the detachable screen module has a separate 210mAh battery. According to manufacturer laboratory testing, main camera can provide up to four hours of operating time when recording 1080p/24 fps video with the screen and Wi-Fi switched off. When recording at higher resolutions or using the screen, wireless connection, and tracking functions, actual operating time depends on selected settings and conditions.

Camera supports PD fast charging. Using a compatible 45W USB-C charger with PD 3.0 PPS support, a powered-off camera can charge to approximately 80% in 23 minutes and reach a full charge in around 38 minutes under laboratory conditions.

Compact camera for travel and everyday content creation

Insta360 Luna Ultra measures 52.4 × 169.9 × 38.5mm. Cosmic Black version weighs approximately 233g, while Stellar White model weighs around 235g. Compact body makes the camera easy to carry while still offering a dual-sensor camera system, mechanical stabilization, and recording options suitable for professional post-production.

Camera is suitable for vlogging, travel content, interviews, portrait videos, events, and social media production. Vertical recording with a 9:16 aspect ratio is available at up to 3K/60 fps, making it possible to capture content for mobile platforms directly in the camera.

Insta360 Luna Ultra is not waterproof, splashproof, or dustproof. Camera should therefore be protected from rain, water, sand, and dusty environments.
