Insta360 X6 – 8K 360° camera with large sensors and advanced AI processing
Insta360 X6 is a professional-grade 360° camera that combines two custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, video recording at up to 8K/50 fps, a triple AI chip system and a durable, weather-resistant design. Camera captures the entire surrounding view at once, allowing users to select framing, camera movement and aspect ratio later in the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio desktop software.
X6 is suitable for capturing travel, sports, motorcycling, cycling, winter activities, water sports, events and everyday moments. In addition to 360° recording, it can be used as a single-lens ultra-wide action camera, recording conventional video at up to 5K/60 fps or 4K/120 fps. This makes Insta360 X6 a flexible content creation tool for users who want to capture both immersive 360° footage and ready-to-share flat videos with one compact camera.
Dual 1/1.1-inch Sony square sensors
Insta360 X6 uses two custom 1/1.1-inch square sensors developed in cooperation with Sony. When recording 360° content, the sensors’ 4:3 imaging areas provide a combined surface area approximately equivalent to a 1-inch sensor. A larger light-sensitive area helps capture more detail, improve dynamic range and reduce digital noise, particularly in challenging lighting or low-light conditions.
During 8K recording, pixel size is 2.44 μm, while maximum dynamic range can reach 14.5 stops according to the manufacturer. This helps preserve more information in both bright and dark areas of the image. For example, camera can better handle scenes that simultaneously include a bright sky, shaded areas and strongly illuminated subjects.
Both lenses have an F2.0 aperture and a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 7.78 mm. Ultra-wide lenses cover the camera’s entire surroundings, while software combines their footage into a seamless 360° video or photo.
Up to 8K/50 fps 360° video
Insta360 X6 records 360° video at a maximum resolution of 7680 × 3840 pixels and up to 50 frames per second. High resolution and an increased frame rate deliver smoother results during fast movement while providing more flexibility for changing angles and cropping during post-production.
In 6K mode, camera can record at up to 60 frames per second, while 4K mode supports up to 100 frames per second. Higher frame rates are suitable for capturing fast action, sports and driving scenes, while also allowing footage to be slowed down during editing. In Bullet Time mode, camera supports 8K video at up to 100 fps, 6K video at up to 120 fps and 4K video at up to 240 fps.
Maximum video bitrate is 360 Mbps, and footage is recorded using efficient H.265 encoding. 360° footage is saved in INSV format and can be edited in the Insta360 mobile app or Insta360 Studio software for Mac and Windows.
Shoot first, frame later
One of the key advantages of a 360° camera is its ability to record in every direction simultaneously. There is no need to point the camera precisely at a subject while filming, as the viewing angle and framing can be selected later. A single recording can be turned into a horizontal 16:9 video, vertical 9:16 clip, square social media post or video featuring several different viewing angles.
This workflow is particularly useful for capturing dynamic activities because camera records everything happening behind and beside the user as well. During post-production, users can smoothly rotate the viewing angle, track a subject and simulate moving camera shots without a separate camera operator.
When used with the separately available Invisible Selfie Stick, software automatically removes the stick from the 360° image. This creates a third-person or drone-like perspective in which camera appears to float beside the user without a visible mount.
Triple AI chip system
Insta360 X6 uses a new triple AI chip system consisting of a flagship Qualcomm 4 nm processor and two dedicated imaging chips. System handles image processing, footage stitching between two lenses, stabilization, noise reduction and colour reproduction.
Increased processing power allows camera to process high-bitrate, high-frame-rate 8K video and support more advanced AI-powered features. At the same time, a more efficient chipset helps reduce power consumption and keep camera temperatures under control during extended recording.
AdaptiveTone 2.0 measures light separately through each lens. Updated tone mapping helps preserve highlight detail, make shadows more visible and achieve more consistent colours throughout the entire 360° frame. Portrait optimization detects people and adjusts skin tones for a more natural result.
PureVideo for low-light recording
PureVideo is a recording mode designed for low-light conditions, using AI-powered noise reduction and advanced image processing. In 360° PureVideo mode, camera can record video at up to 8K/30 fps. Built-in ambient light sensors help reduce flickering caused by artificial lighting, which may otherwise be visible when filming on city streets, at concerts or indoors.
Large sensors, F2.0 aperture and AI processing help preserve detail in nighttime cityscapes, scenes filmed around a campfire, starry skies and other low-light environments. PureVideo cannot completely replace good lighting, but it helps produce cleaner and more usable footage in challenging conditions.
10-bit I-Log and Dolby Vision
Insta360 X6 supports 10-bit colour recording, allowing it to capture more than 1.07 billion colours. Greater colour depth helps produce smoother transitions in skies, shadows and other areas with subtle tonal variations while providing greater flexibility during post-production.
Designed for professional colour grading, I-Log profile preserves more information in highlights and shadows, allowing colours, contrast and exposure to be adjusted more precisely later. Users can also select standard Rec.709 colour profile or Dolby Vision, which provides greater contrast and brighter HDR reproduction on compatible displays.
InstaFrame 2.0 creates ready-to-use flat video
InstaFrame 2.0 allows Insta360 X6 to be used in a similar way to a gimbal camera. Mode records conventional 4K video directly while automatically tracking a selected person, pet or other subject. This provides users with a finished flat video file that does not need to be reframed from 360° footage before sharing.
If desired, InstaFrame 2.0 can simultaneously record an 8K 360° backup. This means a ready-to-share 4K video is immediately available, while the full surrounding view is preserved so an entirely different angle can be selected later. Mode supports horizontal, vertical and cinematic 2.35:1 aspect ratios.
Smart tracking locks onto a selected subject with one tap and keeps it in frame as it moves. Because a 360° camera has none of the mechanical rotation limits associated with a gimbal, tracking can continue regardless of which direction the subject moves around camera.
Single-lens ultra-wide video at up to 5K/60 fps
Insta360 X6 is not limited to 360° recording. In Single-Lens Mode, it works as a conventional ultra-wide action camera and records ready-to-use MP4 video files.
5K video can be recorded at up to 60 frames per second. When using the ultra-wide 170° field of view, maximum quality is 5K/30 fps, while 5K/60 fps mode provides a field of view of up to 132°. In 4K mode, camera can record at up to 120 frames per second, making it suitable for capturing fast action and slow-motion footage.
FreeFrame Video records a square image area at up to 6K/30 fps. A suitable aspect ratio can be selected later, allowing one recording to be used for both a horizontal YouTube video and a vertical Instagram Reels or TikTok clip.
120 MP 360° photos
Insta360 X6 captures 360° photos at up to 120 MP with a resolution of 15,520 × 7,760 pixels. High resolution helps preserve fine details in landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and other scenes that users may want to explore from different directions or reframe later.
In Single-Lens Mode, camera can capture conventional photos at up to 42 MP. Images are saved in INSP or DNG format and can be exported through the Insta360 app or Studio desktop software. 360° photo modes also include Interval and Starlapse for capturing starry skies.
AI 360 Photo Frame analyses the composition, people and other subjects in a 360° photo, then automatically creates a conventional portrait, landscape or Tiny Planet view.
FlowState stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock
FlowState electronic stabilization helps keep footage smooth while running, riding and participating in other dynamic activities. Camera’s six-axis gyroscope records movement data, which software uses to compensate for shaking, vibrations and sudden movements.
360° Horizon Lock keeps the horizon level even when camera rotates around its axis. This is particularly useful for filming motorcycling, mountain biking, skiing and other activities during which camera orientation changes constantly.
Because X6 records the entire surrounding view, image can be stabilized and horizon locked without the heavy cropping often required with conventional video. Users can concentrate on the activity and adjust framing and camera movement later.
2.32-inch OLED display
Insta360 X6 features a 2.32-inch high-contrast OLED touchscreen on its front. Display reaches a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits, helping menus, previews and recorded footage remain visible in sunny conditions.
Always-On Display allows important status information to be checked quickly without keeping the full screen constantly active. A pressure sensor beneath the display improves touch accuracy and helps reduce accidental inputs. Recording can also be started or stopped by pressing directly on the entire screen, which is convenient when wearing gloves.
Camera provides haptic vibration feedback when settings or status change. This allows users to receive confirmation even when they cannot see the display.
Replaceable and more durable lenses
Insta360 X6 uses second-generation replaceable lenses that, according to the manufacturer’s laboratory tests, are five times more scratch-resistant than Insta360 X5 lenses. A tougher surface helps reduce the risk of minor scratches during everyday use, travel and active pursuits.
If a lens is damaged, separately available X6 Replacement Lens Kit allows users to replace it without sending the entire camera for servicing. The protruding lenses of a 360° camera still require careful handling, and using the included protective pouch or a separate lens cap is recommended during transport.
Longer runtime with Xtreme Battery
Insta360 X6 uses a removable 2600 mAh Xtreme Battery. When using Endurance Mode, runtime can reach up to 140 minutes while recording at 8K/30 fps under the manufacturer’s laboratory conditions. Actual battery life depends on selected resolution, frame rate, temperature, wireless connections and enabled features.
Battery is designed to operate at temperatures as low as –20°C, making camera suitable for winter sports and activities in cold conditions. Camera’s operating temperature ranges from –20°C to 40°C.
With a 30 W PD 3.0 PPS USB-C charger, battery can be charged inside a powered-off camera to approximately 80% in 24 minutes and fully charged in around 35 minutes under laboratory conditions. Standard Bundle includes one Xtreme Battery, while a charging adapter must be purchased separately.
Star-Ridge cooling system
Processing high-resolution, high-frame-rate video generates considerable heat. Insta360 X6 uses Star-Ridge cooling technology to draw heat away from high-performance components and help keep grip and touch surfaces at a more comfortable temperature.
According to the manufacturer, system improves cooling efficiency by 10% compared with other tested 360° cameras. This allows continuous 8K/30 fps 360° video recording without interruptions caused by overheating, provided ambient conditions remain within camera’s specified operating range.
360° audio and wireless microphone support
Camera uses new wind-resistant 360° microphones that record sound from every direction while helping maintain vocal clarity. Intelligent Audio Mode analyses surrounding conditions and automatically selects suitable processing.
Designed for motorcycling, Hidden Engine Mic helps reduce wind noise while making engine sounds more prominent. Users can also select intelligent wind noise reduction, voice enhancement, stereo and 360° audio modes. Audio is recorded in 48 kHz, 16-bit AAC format.
Insta360 X6 supports a direct connection to up to two Insta360 Mic Air or Insta360 Mic Pro transmitters. This enables wireless audio recording for two people without attaching a separate receiver to camera. Microphones are sold separately.
IP68 waterproofing to a depth of 20 metres
Insta360 X6 has an IP68 rating and is waterproof to a depth of 20 metres without a separate housing. This allows camera to be used in rain, during water sports and in shallow water, provided all covers and seals are properly closed before use.
For recording 360° video underwater, using a separately available Invisible Dive Case Pro is recommended. Refraction in water may otherwise cause image distortion and make the stitching line between footage from the two lenses visible. With a suitable dive case and underwater lenses, camera can be used at depths of up to 60 metres. Dive case is not included in Standard Bundle.
Built-in storage and fast data transfer
Insta360 X6 includes 64 GB of built-in storage, of which approximately 47 GB is available to users. This allows recording to begin even when a microSD card is not available. For longer recordings, camera supports UHS-I V30 or faster microSD cards.
USB-C port uses a USB 3.1 connection and supports wired data transfer speeds of up to 450 MB/s under suitable conditions. Wi-Fi 6 offers maximum wireless transfer speeds of up to 100 MB/s. Camera also supports Bluetooth 5.3, while built-in NFC allows it to be quickly activated and paired with the Insta360 app.
AI-powered editing and Insta360 app
Insta360 PanoMind is the company’s proprietary multimodal AI model that analyses 360° video and identifies important moments, suitable angles and action highlights. System has been trained using travel, motorcycling, winter sports and other footage to simplify the editing of long recordings.
AI Director can analyse recorded footage while camera is charging, select suitable moments and create a finished video clip on the user’s phone. Auto Edit 2.0 combines selected clips, determines framing and camera movements, and adds cuts, music and transitions. Automatically created results can be adjusted manually if required.
For more advanced editing, users can work with free Insta360 Studio software on Mac or Windows computers. It allows 360° footage to be reframed, stabilized, colour-graded and exported in a conventional video format.
Versatile control options
In addition to its touchscreen, Insta360 X6 can be controlled using voice commands and hand gestures. Voice Control 2.0 allows recording to be started or stopped remotely, while Gesture Control recognizes an open palm and a V sign.
Twisting a compatible selfie stick twice can trigger video recording or capture a photo. This function is useful when camera controls are not within easy reach. With additional accessories, X6 can also be used as a remotely controlled gimbal-style camera or a POV camera that follows head movements.
Magnetic mounts and a wide range of accessories
Insta360 X6 features a standard 1/4-inch mounting thread on its base and supports Insta360’s magnetic mounting system. X6 is compatible with X5, X4 Air and Ace Series magnetic mounts, allowing the same accessory system to be used with several different cameras.
More than one hundred mounts and accessories are available, including invisible selfie sticks, quick-release mounts, motorcycle and bicycle mounts, a dive case, spare batteries, a fast charging case and X6 Power Selfie Stick with integrated control functions. Accessory compatibility should be checked before use, as these products are not included in the standard package.
Compact and durable design
Insta360 X6 weighs approximately 196 grams and measures 50 × 100 × 40 mm with lenses. Body depth without protruding lenses is 26.4 mm. Camera is available in Midnight Black and Arctic White.
Compact body fits easily into a pocket or small camera bag and can be attached to a backpack, helmet, vehicle or sports equipment. A six-axis gyroscope, IP68 waterproofing, cold-resistant battery and reinforced replaceable lenses make X6 suitable for active use in a variety of weather conditions.
