Unitree Go2 X – intelligent quadruped robot for development, education, and interactive projects
Unitree Go2 X is a capable quadruped robot that combines natural movement, intelligent environmental perception, and flexible control options. It is designed for robotics demonstrations, education and research, programming projects, technology presentations, and testing various autonomous solutions. A compact design, 4D LiDAR, an HD camera, an eight-core processor, and a precise motion system allow the robot to perceive its surroundings, avoid obstacles, and move steadily across uneven terrain.
Go2 X belongs to Unitree Go2 robot series and sits between consumer models and fully development-oriented EDU version in terms of equipment and functionality. Compared with simpler Go2 models, X version includes a handheld controller as standard, supports use with a charging station, and offers options for secondary development. Unitree Go2 X is therefore well suited to users looking for a ready-to-use and easily controlled robot platform that can also be used for learning, experimentation, or development of customised projects.
Precise movement and excellent terrain capability
Unitree Go2 X moves on four legs and uses a total of 12 aluminium joint motors. Three active joints in each leg allow the robot to adjust its body position, maintain balance, and respond quickly to changing movement conditions. Largest joint motor provides a peak torque of approximately 45 Nm, helping the robot move powerfully, perform fast manoeuvres, and regain balance after being pushed or slipping.
Robot’s normal movement speed reaches approximately 3.7 metres per second, while maximum speed can reach around 5 metres per second, or 18 kilometres per hour, under laboratory conditions. This performance makes Go2 X sufficiently dynamic for both interactive demonstrations and more demanding movement tasks. Robot can negotiate steps approximately 16 cm high and climb slopes of up to 40 degrees. Thanks to a low centre of gravity, wide joint range of motion, and intelligent motion control, it can also handle gravel, grass, inclines, and other uneven surfaces.
Main structure of Unitree Go2 X is made from aluminium alloy and high-strength engineering plastic. Robot weighs approximately 15 kg with battery installed and measures around 70 × 31 × 40 cm when standing. Its compact body is easy to transport, yet structure is robust enough to carry a typical payload of approximately 8 kg. Maximum payload can reach around 12 kg under suitable conditions.
4D LiDAR and intelligent environmental perception
Unitree Go2 X uses Unitree’s proprietary ultra-wide-angle 4D LiDAR L2 sensor. LiDAR’s 360 × 96-degree field of view gives the robot a broad view of its surroundings while helping to minimise blind spots. Sensor has a minimum detection distance of approximately 0.05 m, allowing the robot to detect objects and obstacles located close to its body.
LiDAR works together with an HD wide-angle camera and an intelligent obstacle detection system. This combination of sensors helps the robot assess available movement space, select a suitable route, and respond to objects appearing in its path. With Go2 app and supported functions, LiDAR can also be used to create a point-cloud map of an area and define a route for the robot to follow within a specified space. Actual autonomy and feature availability depend on software, configuration, and intended application.
Built-in HD camera transmits video in real time and allows users to monitor the robot’s surroundings remotely. This makes Unitree Go2 X suitable for educational experiments, remote observation, demonstrations, and projects where the robot needs to move beyond user’s direct line of sight.
ISS 2.0 intelligent tracking system
Go2 X is equipped with Unitree ISS 2.0 intelligent side-follow system. Wireless vector positioning technology helps the robot determine a user’s location and direction of movement, allowing it to follow a moving person smoothly. According to Unitree, tracking module’s control range can exceed 30 metres in an open, unobstructed environment with minimal interference.
Tracking system works together with an optimised obstacle avoidance solution, helping the robot take its surroundings into account while following a user. This function is suitable for technology demonstrations, educational activities, content creation, and situations where the robot needs to move alongside a person without continuous manual control.
Versatile control and connectivity options
Unitree Go2 X can be operated using the included handheld controller or Unitree Go2 mobile app. App allows users to view camera feed, adjust robot settings, and access supported intelligent features. Real-time video transmission provides a clear overview of robot movement and makes operation intuitive even when Go2 X is not located close to its user.
For wireless connectivity, Go2 X supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and a 4G module with GPS. Availability of 4G functions depends on region, mobile network, and service coverage. Multiple connectivity options make the robot flexible to use in classrooms, laboratories, exhibition spaces, and outdoor environments.
Go2 X also supports voice functions, which may include offline voice commands, intercom communication, and music playback. A built-in front light improves visibility in low-light conditions and makes the robot easier to see.
Eight-core processor and development options
Unitree Go2 X uses a high-performance eight-core processor for motion control, sensor processing, and operation of intelligent functions. Its computing platform supports several operating modes, including advanced movement, AI-based functions, and 3D LiDAR mapping.
Support for graphical programming allows users without extensive programming experience to learn basic robotics concepts. For more experienced developers, Go2 X offers limited secondary development capabilities that allow the robot to be used in customised experiments and development projects. Go2 EDU configuration may be more suitable for projects requiring unrestricted development access, additional sensors, or high-performance NVIDIA Jetson Orin computing modules.
Software can be improved through OTA updates. With user authorisation, the robot connects to Unitree’s cloud-based service to download software updates and feature improvements. This allows system functionality to evolve over time without replacing robot hardware.
Smart battery and up to two hours of operating time
Unitree Go2 X uses a removable 8000 mAh smart battery with a nominal voltage of 29.6 V and an energy capacity of 236.8 Wh. Robot operates for approximately 1–2 hours on a single charge, although actual operating time depends on movement speed, terrain, payload, temperature, active functions, and movement intensity.
Integrated battery management system monitors charging, discharging, and operating temperature. Its protection system helps prevent overcharging, excessive discharge, short circuits, excessive charging current, and charging at unsuitable temperatures. Removable design simplifies battery replacement and allows operation to continue quickly when a spare battery is available.
Go2 X is compatible with Unitree charging station, allowing an automated charging solution to be created with a suitable configuration and software. Charging with a standard 33.6 V, 3.5 A charger usually takes several hours.
