DJI Air 3S review: a new standard of excellence in the world of drones

Vertical and horizontal shooting even in low light, 4K/60fps and more

The new DJI Air 3S is a great drone with a camera system that allows aerial videographers and travel photographers to capture both wide-angle and medium telephoto shots. It has a large 1-inch sensor, an innovative obstacle avoidance system, 42GB of internal memory and excellent low-light performance – one of the best 4K/60fps drones available today.

DJI Air 3S features and benefits

DJI has been active and launched several new devices this year. The Air 3S offers a significant upgrade in storage capacity compared to the Air 3, with the drone now featuring 42GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. In typical DJI fashion, the drone delivers stable 4K/60fps video, 10-bit D-Log M recording and crystal clear photos thanks to its dual camera system and smart obstacle avoidance technology. This drone is ideal for content creators, travel bloggers, photographers and hobbyists alike.

Two-in-one camera system

The most impressive feature of the DJI Air 3 was the innovative dual camera system, with each camera having its own 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor. The wide-angle camera allows for wide-angle views, while the telephoto lens can zoom in closer and bring detail to the frame, creating a more dynamic result. The upgraded Air 3S takes this concept a step further by upgrading the wide-angle sensor to 1-inch, which improves dynamic range and low-light quality. In addition, the device has an internal memory recording option and greater spatial awareness, thanks to a front-facing lidar and vision-based sensors.

Compact and portable

The Air 3S retains the compact dimensions of the Air 3, and when folded is comparable in size to a 500 ml water bottle. While it’s not DJI’s smallest or lightest drone, it’s still easily portable and easy and safe to fly.

Camera performance and creative freedom

Air 3S’s new 1-inch sensor has a dynamic range of 14 stops and excels in challenging lighting conditions. The wide-angle and telephoto cameras can capture 50- and 48-megapixel photos and videos in 10-bit D-Log M recording format, giving you great freedom in post-production. In addition, the cameras have standard colour profiles and 10-bit HLG.

Speaking of video modes, Air 3S can film 4K videos at up to 60 fps, 4K slow-motion videos at 120 fps and Full HD slow-motion videos at 240 fps. The drone also supports 9:16 portrait videos, ideal for quick posting to social media.

Flight experience and safety

When it comes to flying, the Air 3S is user-friendly and equipped with automatic take-off and landing. Omni-directional object detection makes it easy to avoid collisions even in strong winds. The RC2 touchscreen control panel creates a solid and stable connection, ensuring clear and responsive image reproduction.

If you already own a DJI Air 3, the updates to the Air 3S may not be big enough to replace it right away. But for those used to single-camera drones, the dual-camera system offers new creative freedom. With its performance features, long flight time and high-quality camera, the Air 3S is ideal for enthusiasts and drone enthusiasts.

The DJI Air 3S is a modern and user-friendly drone that offers professionals and hobbyists alike versatility and great image quality.
