How to choose the right DJI Enterprise drone: Mavic 3 Thermal, Enterprise or Multispectral?

Similarities

At first glance, the only differences may seem to be the name, the price and the kit, but a closer look reveals important differences. So let’s start with the similarities.

Flight time and safety
All three drones fly for a maximum of 45 minutes. They come with advanced safety features: omni-directional sensors to avoid obstacles, an advanced pilot assistance system (APAS 5.0) and advanced automatic return to home (RTH).

DJI RC Pro Enterprise
The DJI RC Pro Enterprise is used to control all three drones. It features a 5.5-inch touchscreen display, a 1000-watt high-brightness screen and a 3-hour battery life. The battery is built-in.

DJI software compatibility
The M3E, M3T and M3M are compatible with DJI FlightHub 2 and DJI Terra. The FlightHub 2 enables a cloud-based drone management platform, while the DJI Terra can be used to create detailed 2D maps and 3D models from captured orthophotos.

Enterprise accessories
All three drones are compatible with DJI Enterprise Series accessories, such as a loudspeaker and RTK module that allows centimetre-level surveying. In addition, third-party accessories such as lighting with CZI GL10 gimbal system can be fitted to all of them.

Differences

Mavic 3 Enterprise

The M3E features a 4/3-inch CMOS sensor and a 20MP camera. It is optimised for mapping with a mechanical shutter, which significantly reduces distortion and blurring in still images. The short shooting interval (0.7 s) makes it ideal for fast mapping. In addition, the same gimbal system features a telephoto camera with 56x hybrid zoom capability.

Mavic 3 Thermal

The strength of the M3T lies in its 640×512 radiometric thermosensor, ideal for heat signature detection, rescue and night missions. In addition, it has a 48MP wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera with 7-56x zoom capability – ideally the same telephoto camera as the M3E, but with a minimum shooting interval of 2s.

Mavic 3 Multispectral

M3Ml is specifically designed for agricultural and environmental monitoring. This drone has 4 multi-spectral cameras (Green, Red, Red Edge, Near Infrared) and a 20MP RGB camera to collect data on plant health, soil condition and other agricultural patterns. The M3M also comes with an RTK module that provides centimeter-level accuracy, making it ideal for field mapping and analysis. In addition, the drone is also equipped with a sunlight sensor.

Who are these drones for?

Mapping/Mapping
The M3E is well suited for mapping applications where fast imaging and a mechanical shutter are required. M3M is ideal for those who want to analyse agriculture or ecosystems and produce NDVI maps, for example, based on the data collected. The M3T can also be used to assemble some maps, but this drone is not intended for mapping.

Energy and utilities
The M3T is the best choice for energy and utility work, such as detecting heat leaks and faulty equipment (solar park inspection). More general inspections can also be carried out without a thermal imaging camera with the M3E drone.

Forestry and environmental studies
For environmental managers and forest experts, M3M is a great asset as it can identify patterns in vegetation health and help monitor ecosystem changes.

The best solution for your needs

Choosing the right drone depends on your specific needs and applications. All 3 drones offer a wide range of features, but keep in mind that different features suit different industries – there is currently no drone on the market that meets the needs of all applications at once. If you need precision mapping, the Mavic 3 Enterprise is the best choice. If thermal capability is important, you should choose the Mavic 3 Thermal. But for precision agriculture and environmental monitoring needs, Mavic 3 Multispectral is the best tool.
