DJI unveiled the launch of a new flight simulator at AirWork 2018. It allows pilots to test a variety of drones in different weather conditions and tasks. The main goal of the flight simulator is to train pilots safely and to get a feel for the drone, all without the fear of something happening to the drone physically.
DJI flight simulator
The DJI flight simulator was developed specifically for the DJI Enterprise group of drones, but can also be used by pilots of the Spark, Mavic, Phantom, Inspire and Matrice series. The simulator uses an actual drone controller and the controllers operate in the simulator in the same way they do in real life. There are also three flight modes to choose from: position, attitude and sport.
The simulator allows you to fly in different environments and even edit wind and magnetic factors. If you want to experience a simulated crash or a crash, there is even an option to do so. For example, you can experience the painful sight of a drone flying into a boulder and crashing into the water – something no pilot would want to experience in real life.

DJI Flight Simulator modes
In the DJI flight simulator you can choose between three training modes: skills training, free flight and application training. Skills training mode allows pilots to practice specific skills such as take-off, landing and following a predefined trajectory. These are complemented by tips and various tests to improve the skills. Free flight mode allows the pilot to fly freely in different environments and weather conditions. Application training mode allows the pilot to concentrate on specific tasks such as SAR (search-and-rescue) or power line maintenance.

The new DJI flight simulator is a great tool to practice and hone your skills in a completely risk-free environment. DJI created the programme with the aim of training pilots in a risk-free and property-free way. There are a number of applications for the program and users have the opportunity to get to know their drone better before actually flying it. Whether you have a brand new Mavic 2 or a Matrice series drone, DJI’s flight simulator is worth a look. Find out more about the DJI Flight Simulator here.
