At the end of August there was a great event called DJI New Pilot Experience, which was conducted by Droon.ee drone specialists together with Indrek Pajis from Pilvepiks. It was a good introduction for new pilots on how to fly a drone, what our local aviation laws are, what exactly DJI is and what products they have in their range.
The interest was incredibly high, with just under a hundred people registered, which is quite a good result for our tiny Estonia. Unfortunately not everyone could come, but more than half of them were there to listen and fly drones with us.
The event was held in Tabasalu, where we also had an event called Tabasalu Day at the same time, where we had a nice corner set aside for training and flying. The busy and fast-paced day started with an introductory training session for theoretical knowledge and then we went out into the yard to fly the Mavicu series drones.
The participants were divided into four groups, each of which was assigned an instructor to learn to fly under his or her firm hand and watchful eye. We flew Mavic Air and Pro drones with both stick and hand-held gliders.
In addition, we organised competitions with the participants, with a bag full of DJI nannies and a smaller Tello drone to practice with. Overall, everyone did a great job in the competitions, showing that flying a drone has never been easier.
We had taken with us virtually every DJI product on sale, and among them was the Ronin-S, which would prove surprisingly popular. We were able to give a lot of things a try and even got our Inspire 2 to fly a few times in the hands of fresh pilots.
It was nice to see that those who already had drones took part in the event. The aim was mostly to see and try out other DJI models to get a better understanding of the whole range and maybe buy something cooler or newer in the future. The DJI Goggles were popular with those who already own a Mavicu, and it’s usually always worth trying before you buy.
After the “official” part of the training, all festival visitors had the chance to explore and try out drones, ask for advice from the staff at drone.ee and try out electric vehicles such as unicycles, which were a favourite with the festival’s youngest visitors.
