DJI Mic 2 – a compact sound system that’s great to take on the go

If you’ve ever tried to film a video outdoors, you’ll know how difficult it can be to record decent sound – a passing car or the slightest breeze can ruin the whole recording in an instant. That’s why a high quality, minimalist audio recording kit like the DJI Mic 2 has always been a sought-after product by users.

The DJI Mic 2 is a tiny transmitter and recorder about half the size of a Tic-Tac box. It’s not so small as to be completely unnoticeable (unless you’re using a lavalier mic), but it’s stylish enough to be fully visible in front of the camera and blend into the overall picture. While the previous model only came in black, the DJI Mic 2 transmitter is available in translucent black as well as white.

The transmitter is also easily compatible with other DJI products such as Osmo Action 4, Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo Mobile 6, Pocket 2, Osmo Action 3, Osmo Mobile 5, RS 3 Mini and Ronin 4D. But the transmitter is really just one part of a complete kit – the entire DJI Mic 2 kit includes two transmitters, one receiver and a charging case.

Compact and powerful

DJI’s first wireless microphone, the DJI Mic, proved its potential when it first hit the market and quickly became one of the most convenient ways to record audio on the move, but the latest version has managed to improve in so many ways.

DJI advertises intelligent noise cancellation built into the transmitter, which I’m sure many will be sceptical about at first. Often, the preference is to record the sound as cleanly as possible and make all the necessary fine adjustments later. However, DJI has once again come up with a surprisingly workable solution, and the noise cancelling is rather effective and doesn’t distort the sound – but the end result is up to each user to judge.

Another major innovation is support for 32-bit variable audio with built-in recording. This is a big advantage when filming in an environment where sound levels cannot always be controlled. All in all, this means that the DJI Mic 2 can record a much wider range of sounds, and it’s much easier to adjust sound levels later on and avoid situations where someone’s speech is suddenly too loud and the sound gets distorted.

Direct Bluetooth compatibility is a big step forward in terms of compatibility. This means that the transmitter can be connected directly to a phone, tablet or other DJI device via Bluetooth to dispense with the receiver when recording. However, it’s worth noting that this can shorten battery life somewhat, and you’ll miss out on some of the system’s key features like noise cancellation and 32-bit floating audio.

‘In addition, camera users have the option to connect the receiver via a 3.5mm TRS cable, and life is made very convenient for Sony camera users -. DJI Mic 2 Camera Adapterallows the DJI Mic 2 receiver to be connected to a Sony camera without the TRS cable.

The DJI Mic 2’s battery life has also received a significant upgrade. The original transmitters and receivers had 320 mAh capacity batteries, but the DJI Mic 2 has 360 mAh capacity batteries. The charging capacity has also increased from 2600 mAh to 3250 mAh.

The charging cradle can recharge an empty device in a little over an hour – not the quickest solution if the battery dies in the middle of a take, but with the ability to use one microphone while charging the other, there’s enough flexibility for a full day’s work.

One of the most convenient storage systems on the market

The DJI Mic 2 is a significant improvement over the original model, offering excellent compatibility via Bluetooth, Lightning, USB-C or 3.5mm adapters. Long battery life, easy and fast usability and all of the above combine to make the DJI Mic 2 one of the most convenient recording systems on the market. Designed for content creators, voice-over artists, live broadcasters, videographers and anyone else looking to simplify their work with cutting-edge audio recording equipment – speed is often as important as recording quality, and there are few better choices on the market in this regard.
